Raees has advised more than 600 entrepreneurs in Internet, SaaS, healthcare, alternative energy, transportation, advertising, entertainment, resort and professional services ventures. His clients include Web-based companies supporting over $1 billion in transactions, in addition to college freshmen launching ventures from their garages.

Raees routinely counsels Internet and high-tech companies on compliance with state and federal laws, such as the:

Transactional and Litigation Experience

Raees was lead counsel in negotiating licensing rights with one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world and one of the largest universities in the United States. He also successfully spearheaded a multimillion dollar corporate divestiture and structured a multimillion dollar exclusive distributorship agreement on behalf of a U.S. corporation supplying products to the Mexican Government.

In litigation matters, Raees was co-chair of a discrimination lawsuit against a $2 billion utility company, in which he prevailed at trial, obtaining a six-figure award. Raees routinely litigates unfair competition, trade secret and defamation cases. He is experienced in resolving board and shareholder disputes, saving clients from costly and uncertain litigation.

As an adjunct Professor of Law at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, in Tempe, Raees enjoys teaching law students how to counsel local entrepreneurs.

Education and Early Career

Raees earned his J.D. and Certificate in Law, Science, and Technology from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Upon graduation, Raees was a senior Graduate Fellow for the Innovation Advancement Program clinic at ASU. Shortly thereafter, he founded his own law firm, advising entrepreneurs. Raees has published numerous articles about startups and the Internet, and frequently speaks at conventions and continuing education seminars.

During law school Raees was an intern in the Phoenix office of a top 10 (by size) US law firm, supporting both litigation and transactional practice groups. As an intern in the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, he provided legal support to several State agencies, including the Department of Mental Health, Department of Education, Department of Real Estate and Department of Financial Institutions. He also drafted opinions on legal issues relating to mental health patients for the Health Section, as well on misappropriation for the Education Section. At the Consumer Protection and Advocacy Section, Raees assisted attorneys general to enforce and settle major consumer fraud actions and banking investigations.

Before becoming an attorney, Raees established a respected business consultancy. During that time, he aided a failing medical business and successfully brokered its highly profitable sale. Additionally, Raees found key markets for a Bangalore-based manufacturer and developed a multimillion dollar 401k marketing plan for a prominent Wall Street investment bank.

Outside the Office

When he’s not brokering deals or litigating on behalf of clients, Raees enjoys creating music and art, working on his cars and talking to entrepreneurs. He is also a dark chocolate connoisseur.
